Field Maple British Native Bonsai Tree

Acer campestris or field maple is a native British species well suited to Bonsai cultivation. It's a super tough tree that easily accepts the rigours of Bonsai training. The 5 lobed leaves become small once the tree begins to ramify well and the branch structure is very good, making a nice winter silhouette. The tree is fully hardy and will stand full sun to partial shade. Superb pale yellow autumn colour.

From the collection of the late Harry Nicholl (Scottish Bonsai Association). Harry built this beautiful native maple from practically nothing over 25 years. That patient and careful work shows and this lovely bonsai has a special character and quality not often seen in field maple which in the wrong hands can be coarse. A beautiful summer appearance, great autumn colour but at it's absolute best over winter when the leaves are absent. This tree is in excellent health having been diligently repotted as required over it's years in Harry's care. A big and impressive bonsai built with care and love over decades.

26" tall above the soil surface. 24" wide overall.

Planted in a plastic bonsai pot.
